Fellow club member and Geologist Jim Anderson will lead a field trip to the Anza Borrego-Salton Trough area on March 23 and 24, 2024.

The Anza Borrego-Salton Trough area is one of the most unique geologic areas on the planet.  You would need to go to the Great Rift Valley in east Africa to find another tectonic spreading center on land.  And Anza Borrego is essentially in our backyard.  Join the Fallbrook Gem and Mineral Society for a two day tour of the geologic history and formations of the Anza Borrego area.  The trip will focus on the geology with only a few opportunities for collecting (and NO collecting within the State Park boundaries).

The field trip is open to current members of FGMS (you must have paid your dues for 2024).  A FGMS liability waiver must be completed prior to the trip.  Current FGMS membership and a signed liability waiver are both required - no exceptions.  Wear heavy shoes.  Bring lunch and water for both days as there are few facilities.  There are three dirt roads to be travelled.  They can be handled in 2WD vehicles by experienced off roaders but it will be best that we double up in 4WD vehicles on them.  We will work on car pooling and 4WD rides at the March 14 meeting.

A detailed itinerary will be sent to all registrants of the trip.
